The Division I document is baseball-specific. The Division II document is a general, all-sport reminder calendar, so D2 prospects should use it alongside the current NCAA Manual and their target programs' compliance guidance.
2026-27 Division I Baseball Recruiting Calendar Dates
Contact periods
During a contact period, authorized athletics staff may have in-person, off-campus recruiting contact and conduct evaluations.

For prospects, these are the calendar windows when a coach can evaluate you in person and may have in-person, off-campus recruiting contact, subject to all other NCAA rules.
Quiet periods
During a quiet period, in-person recruiting contact is limited to the member institution's campus. Coaches may not make in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts or evaluations.

Quiet periods can be useful for planning a campus visit. A coach can meet with you on campus, but cannot come off campus to evaluate you during that period.
Dead periods
During a dead period, no in-person recruiting contacts or evaluations are permitted on or off campus, and official or unofficial visits are not permitted.

Recruiting-related phone calls and electronic communication may still be allowed, but the dead-period restrictions are strict. Check with the college before making travel plans.
Recruiting shutdowns
A recruiting shutdown is broader than a dead period: no recruiting activity is permitted, including contacts, evaluations, official or unofficial visits, correspondence, or making or receiving telephone calls.

What the 2026-27 D1 Baseball Calendar Means for Prospects
The calendar regulates the actions of college coaches and athletics staff. It does not determine whether you can work on your recruiting profile, update your video, research programs or prepare a thoughtful outreach list.
Plan your outreach and events
- Before an event: Send coaches a concise message with your graduation year, position, key measurables, schedule and video link.
- During contact periods: Coaches may evaluate and have in-person, off-campus recruiting contact. Keep schedules current and make it easy for programs to find your field or game stream.
- During quiet periods: Consider campus visits when a program has time to host you on campus.
- During dead periods and shutdowns: Do not schedule a campus visit. Use the time to update video, academics and your school list instead.
Communication timing still matters
The recruiting calendar works alongside sport-specific communication rules. For Division I baseball, college coaches may begin recruiting communication with a prospective student-athlete on June 15 after the prospect's sophomore year. A calendar contact period does not override that age- and grade-based communication rule.
Do not confuse a calendar window with an offer timeline
Contact periods make in-person recruiting permissible; they do not promise contact, an evaluation or an offer. Your development, academics, fit with the program and proactive communication remain central to the process.
Division II Baseball: 2026-27 Calendar Reminder
The NCAA's 2026-27 Division II recruiting-reminders document is not a baseball-specific contact/quiet/dead-period calendar like the Division I document. For Division II's all other sports, including baseball, it lists a signing-date dead period from 7 a.m. November 9 through 7 a.m. November 11, 2026, for high school prospective student-athletes.
Always verify current Division II recruiting and communication rules with the school's compliance office. The NCAA specifically notes that its reminder document should not be used as a substitute for the NCAA Manual.
Division III, NAIA, and junior college
NCAA Division III
Division III does not designate contact, quiet, or dead periods. The 2026-27 NCAA Division III Manual recruiting article does not define those periods. Bylaw 13.1.4 says there are no restrictions on the number or timing of evaluations, and Bylaw 13.02.10.1 says there are no restrictions on the timing of electronic communication. In-person, off-campus recruiting contacts still wait until the prospect has completed sophomore year (Bylaw 13.1.1.1), and recruiting contact is restricted at a practice or competition site until the prospect is released that day (Bylaw 13.1.3.1). Division III legislation is also listed on NCAA.org.
NAIA
The NAIA Guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete says NAIA recruiting has few restrictions on contact between a student-athlete and a coach. The 2026 NAIA Official Handbook recruitment rules (Article II, Section D) do not define contact, quiet, or dead periods. Another NAIA school may not initiate contact once a student has enrolled, or has drawn equipment and begun organized practice. If an enrolled NAIA student contacts another NAIA coach, that school must notify the current school. NAIA coaches may initiate contact with a student whose most recent identification was at a non-NAIA school.
NJCAA
Article VI of the 2026-27 NJCAA Bylaws, linked from the NJCAA compliance page, does not designate contact, quiet, or dead periods. Section 4.C.1 says athletic department staff may visit a prospective student-athlete at any location for recruiting purposes. Staff still may not contact an in-season NJCAA student-athlete, or a student-athlete who has signed an NJCAA Letter of Intent, unless a release agreement makes that student recruitable (Section 4.D and Section 3.A.8). Official visits may begin on June 1 before the prospect's junior year (Section 4.B.1.a). The earliest Letter of Intent signing date for each sport is on the 2026-27 NJCAA Sports Procedures Chart.
NCAA Recruiting Calendar FAQs
Can a college baseball coach watch me during a quiet period?
No. Division I coaches cannot conduct in-person, off-campus recruiting evaluations during a quiet period. They can have in-person recruiting contact only on their own campus.
Can I visit a college during a Division I dead period?
No. The 2026-27 Division I baseball calendar states that official and unofficial visits are not permitted during a dead period.
What is the difference between a dead period and a recruiting shutdown?
Both prevent in-person recruiting contact and evaluations. A recruiting shutdown also prohibits all forms of recruiting activity, including correspondence and making or receiving telephone calls.
When can D1 baseball coaches start communicating with me?
